Valentino Rossi next Sunday in Jerez will join the exclusive club of riders with two hundred or more participations in MotoGP.

The Ducati rider from Pesaro is destined to become the third rider in the 64-year history of the MotoGP to reach the milestone of 200 GPs contested in the premier class, together with Alex Barros and Loris Capirossi. Rossi made his debut in the 500 class in 2000 at Welkom in South Africa. Since then he has won seven world titles and 79 races, out of a total of 105 taking into account the victories obtained in 250 and 125. This year is Valentino's 13th in MotoGP, and even if he has been winless since leaving Yamaha for Ducati at the end of 2010, the Doctor is in fifth place among the most successful riders ever: Alex Barros, Phil Read, Giacomo Agostini and Loris Capirossi have had longer careers in the premier class, but none have been as victorious as the Ducati rider .

In terms of appearances, Rossi is in third place, behind Alex Barros with 245 GPs and Loris Capirossi with 217; then followed by Carlos Checa with 194, Kenny Roberts Jr. with 167, Sete Gibernau at 160, Jack Findlay at 157, Colin Edwards at 153, Nicky Hayden at 152 and Randy Mamola at 145.
