Fantastic victory for Andrea Dovizioso on the Phillip Island circuit. The Forlì rider, winner of the title in Sepang, after a beautiful race run together with the Spaniard Lorenzo and the Australian KTM Stoner, wins with 123 thousandths of an advantage over the Spaniard and the Australian with the latter 3rd in the photo finish. Andrea gained a lot in some sections of the track while in others it was Lorenzo who was going really fast, especially on the big bend at the end of the main straight. Heart-pounding last lap with the rider from Forlì who wanted at all costs the victory he so sought after last week in Sepang. And this time it was he who crossed the finish line first and won his fifth GP of the season. Falls for Perugini and Lai with the latter hitting the rider from Viterbo, thus taking out both Gileras.

Race report

At the start the Australian Stoner got off to a good start followed by Dovizioso, Lorenzo, Locatelli, Kallio, Borsoi, Simon, Jenkner, Talmacsi, Giansanti, Di Meglio and Barbera.

Dovizioso takes the lead but Stoner responds after a few corners and regains first position. On the first pass, Dovizioso passes first after overtaking Stoner, followed by Lorenzo (who in turn passed Stoner), Stoner, Locatelli, Kallio, Borsoi, Talmacsi, Jenkner, Simon, Giansanti, Di Meglio, Barbera and Lai

Lorenzo passes and takes the lead and Stoner manages the same maneuver a few kilometers later but on the main straight he is overtaken by the Forlì driver. Behind them are Locatelli (8 tenths adrift), Jenkner, Barbera, Kallio, Borsoi, Talmacsi and Lai.

Dovizioso takes the lead and behind Locatelli he sets the fastest lap of the race, moving to just 4 tenths of a second from the race leaders. Big brawl behind between Borsoi, Kallio, Bautista, Giansanti, Talmacsi and Lai.

Fastest lap for Dovizioso who tries to get ahead of Lorenzo, Stoner and Locatelli. The German Jenkner recovers ground in fifth position.
Borsoi is going strong behind him and is now seventh, but the Treviso native has a gap of 7 seconds from the head of the race. Tenth position for Perugini with the Gilera who however was hit by his teammate Lai. Both out! Too bad for the two Gilera drivers. Lorenzo takes the lead up front while Borsoi is now sixth having passed Barbera.

The positions at the top of the race change again, Lorenzo and Dovizioso alternate in the lead while Stoner is just a few tenths away while Locatelli is now 1"790 behind. The pace slows down at the front and Locatelli recovers 6 tenths and now Stoner leads the race. However, Dovizioso passes and a few corners later Lorenzo takes the lead again. The Spanish rider as well as Dovizioso seems to have some margin.

Locatelli caught them again, now the trio has become a quartet even if Dovizioso who has regained first position tries to pull ahead.
The last lap begins, Dovizioso is in the lead but is passed by Lorenzo, the Forlì rider passes again and goes on to win ahead of Lorenzo and Stoner. Followed by Locatelli, Jenkner, Barbera and Borsoi, Di Meglio, Bautista, Gadea, Talmacsi, Pesek, Giansanti, Ballerini, Nieto, Corsi, Pellino, Pasini and Luthi.
