MotoGP: Irta Jerez Test Day 3, Stoner mocks Lorenzo

Pedrosa and Spies follow. Rossi recovers, sixth at 953 thousandths

MotoGP: Irta Jerez Test Day 3, Stoner mocks LorenzoMotoGP: Irta Jerez Test Day 3, Stoner mocks Lorenzo

The third and final day of Irta testing in Jerez de la Frontera saw all the riders frantically on the track to make up for the time lost yesterday due to the weather. Everyone inside from early morning until a few minutes ago, when the checkered flag fell on the last test before the start of the world championship that will start on April 8th in Qatar, where the races will take place at night (the MotoGP will start at 21pm Italian time).

In the end, Casey Stoner came out on top. The reigning Honda champion, a few minutes before the end of the session, mocked Jorge Lorenzo by taking the lead with a time of 1'38"780, a time just 27 thousandths slower than his 2011 pole position. The former Ducati rider he also showed a very remarkable pace (even if the run was only 10 laps) and only Lorenzo and perhaps Pedrosa seem to be able to keep up with him, at least judging by these tests.

The Majorcan proved to be in great form and the new Yamaha YZR-M1 1000 also seems to be really competitive. The 2010 MotoGP world champion finished 173 thousandths of a second behind Stoner and ahead of his Honda compatriot Dani Pedrosa, who lapped in 213 on the Honda RC1.39,157V of Team Repsol. Pedrosa was also incisive with his pace, these first three riders seem to be the ones already in place from a first race perspective.

Fourth is Ben Spies, riding the second Yamaha Factory. The American driver lapped in 1:39.495, 715 thousandths behind Stoner. Behind him was another Yamaha, that of the British rider Cal Crutchlow who closed with a time of 1:39.585, demonstrating the excellent work done by the Tre Diapason manufacturer.

Ducati Chapter. Valentino Rossi (who completed 90 laps) is sixth, 953 thousandths behind Stoner. A step forward for the rider from Pesaro who ran on a pace between 1.40 high and 1.41 low on 14 consecutive laps. A gap that is still acceptable even if his and Ducati's objectives are very different.

Rossi preceded Andrea Dovizioso on the second Yamaha of Team Tech 3, Nicky Hayden (who finished 1.139 from the top) and Alvaro Bautista, riding the Honda RC213V of Team Gresini (who fell without physical consequences during the long run at the Dry Sack ). Closing the Top Ten is the 2011 Moto2 champion Stefan Bradl, riding the RC213V of Team LCR.

The best CTR is Randy De Puniet's ART Aprilia which lapped 1.821 from Stoner. The French rider from Power Electronics Aspar is however very close to the Ducatis of Hector Barberà and Karel Abraham. Good performance by Danilo Petrucci from Terni, 15th with the Ioda. Mattia Pasini and Michele Pirro instead classified themselves in 18th and 19th position.

I hit 50% in my predictions...halfway through the first day of testing I said that Rossi would end the three days in 5th by less than a second...this 46 is the first race where the podium is in play. This year we're having fun !

Even if we're still late, at least we're six tenths closer to the podium for a revolutionized Ducati, we're already going well, just a little more effort and then in the race it's worth it if you can play with the leaders, always hold on strong, the best is always worth it

Rossi has been in second place for a year despite having 7-8 bikes made on him....

    If they did 25 bikes… it was at 1.4 – 1.6 sec!

Rossi constantly remains far from the leaders

Jerez is a short track and the gaps are smaller, then if we add that on the first day the number 46 went for a walk, it seems that he has improved a lot, in reality he is about two tenths behind his teammate and frankly they are few, in terms of pace the separation is much more important than a second. excellent yamaha and great Stoner who completed about ten laps averaging around 1.39,5, Lorenzo's pace is around 1.40,2, then other factors take over in the race.
    Meanwhile great Stoner.

if they don't find the key to the problem and manage to make a base for the championship they won't have a whole day to sort out the set-up!!! in three 45 minute shifts either you have the bike in order or you get 1,5 seconds per lap!!! I find it hard!!!! :-(((
