• Marc Marquez will start from pole for the sixth time this year. This is his fourth consecutive pole and his longest streak of consecutive poles since 2014. Marquez has finished on the podium in the last five races.

• Valentino Rossi, who today crosses the finish line of his 300th GP in the Top Class, qualified on the front row for the fifth time this season. His last podium in the last 8 races was the victory at Assen. Rossi has finished on the podium for the last three years at Silverstone, including a win in 2015.

• Cal Crutchlow starts from third place on the starting grid, having not been on the front row since the Spanish Grand Prix. He will try to become the first British rider to win a Top Class Grand Prix in his home race since the MotoGP world championship has not raced on the Isle of Man since 1977.

• Last year's winner Maverick Vinales will open the second row. Viñales aims to be the fifth rider in history to win in the Top Class on the same circuit with two different manufacturers.

• For the fourth time this year, Jorge Lorenzo is the best placed Ducati rider on the grid, in the center of the second row.

• Andrea Dovizioso, who has won three times in the last six races, will start from the second row. In the previous 165 MotoGP races he had won only twice.

• Dani Pedrosa, who will start from the third row, has finished on the podium seven times in the last nine races

• Johann Zarco, eighth fastest, is the best placed rookie and two years ago he won the Moto2 class race at Silverstone.

• Aleix Espargarò, ninth on the grid, is in his fourth top ten qualifying of the year.

• Jonas Folger is in tenth position on the grid, his time is "only" 0.888s from Marquez's pole position.

• Pol Espargaro, KTM, is in the middle of the fourth row and Alex Rins, opens the fifth row aboard a Suzuki, making six different manufacturers in the top 13 places on the grid.

• Alvaro Bautista, 14th on the grid, celebrates his 250th Grand Prix.
