GP Silverstone MotoGP Free Practice Honda – Marc Marquez ended the first day of free practice on the Silverstone circuit in fifth position in the combined time classification.

In FP1, the Spaniard from Honda finished with the fourth fastest time, second best from Honda behind the home rider, Cal Crutchlow. In the afternoon the five-time champion was the victim of two falls, fortunately both without consequences. The first was a violent high-side, caused by the cold tyres, then a crash, when he was trying to push a little more. However, the two accidents ruined the entire session and prevented the Cervera driver from attempting to attack the time.

Due to the accidents, #93 was not able to try the new starting procedure in the case of Flag-to-Flag, which however he judged to be impractical and too penalizing, both because he is one of the fastest to change bikes when these are parallel, both because whoever enters first has to wait for everyone to pass.

These are the words of Marc Marquez: “The first crash ruined the whole session. The accident was caused by the cold tyre, and I hit it hard, and my hip hurt, then little by little I felt better but the second bike was completely different compared to the one in the accident and I didn't feel right, I felt it to the limit and I fell. Tomorrow we'll try a different set up and hopefully it'll be better, we hope to work well. Today it's difficult to think about the tires for Sunday, this morning I lapped with the soft on the back, but then I used medium and hard for 4 laps and it's not enough to see how much it can drop in the race, tomorrow we'll see. I haven't tried the flag-to-flag, just seen it, but I prefer the other one. So whoever enters first has more of a disadvantage because they have to wait for the others to pass, the arrangement of the bikes is more dangerous and this is something to be seen by the Safety Commission."
