He surprised everyone: with an excellent 1'58"139, Colin Edwards took home his third career pole position. An incredible result for the Yamaha Tech 3 standard bearer, who on the grid precedes his former teammate Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner, a Bridgestone pair unable to threaten the "Texas Tornado" lap. Let's hear what he said at the end of qualifying.

“I owe a big thank you to my team, Yamaha and Michelin”, says Colin Edwards. “Yesterday I had difficulties, but today went really well. My guys and the Japanese got together last night and found a set-up to make the bike go in a totally different way to the way I was riding. I had never used this set-up in my entire time with Yamaha, but based on the problems I was complaining about they suggested a plan. Evidently it has borne fruit, traction above all which is what we were looking for. The lap today was very good, also the result of the qualifying Michelins. Unfortunately for tomorrow Casey and Valentino are almost unreachable, they have a pace of around 1'59”, I don't. We'll see what to do tomorrow in the warm-up".

Colin Edwards is in his third pole position in MotoGP: last year he achieved it at Le Mans and Donington Park.
