Ben Spies the Sepang Grand Prix ends with a retreat and a visit to the infirmary. The American crashed with 5 laps to go and crashed violently with his shoulder but fortunately without any consequences. However, Spies' race could have ended even earlier: in fact at the start he almost got caught with Dovizioso who started in front of him and due to the dirt he skated and stopped a moment after the start and only by pure luck did the two not collide. Spies then started a nice comeback to catch Hayden, but then slipped closing with yet another retreat.

“It was a shocking race – Spies said – the rain on the track was incredible. I'm sorry for also touching Nicky, I thought I had space to brake, thank goodness he didn't fall too. At the start I almost got caught with Dovi, his wheel slipped and fortunately we didn't collide. This was one of the wettest races I have ever raced in my career. When I fell I took a big blow to my shoulder but fortunately it's nothing serious and next Sunday I'll be able to race in Australia"
