MotoGP Red Bull Ring, Free Practice 1: Vinales ahead of Dovizioso, Iannone and Rossi
The Suzuki rider preceded Rossi's Ducatis and Yamaha
GP Austria MotoGP Free Practice 1 – The first free practice session of the MotoGP class at the Red Bull Ring (tenth stage of the 2016 world championship) was characterized by the red flag displayed 12 minutes from the end of the session, this after the fall of Dani Pedrosa (rider ok), the Honda RC213V had damaged the air-fence.
Up until that moment, the surprising Yonny Hernandez was in the lead, riding the Team Aspar Ducati GP14.2 and stopping the clock at a time of 1'26.306. The riders returned to the track at 10:37 and the Colombian's time was beaten by Maverick Vinales, who stopped the clock at a time of 1'25.866.
The Suzuki rider preceded Andrea Dovizioso's Ducati by just 79 thousandths, who in turn is ahead of team-mate Andrea Iannone by 0.132s.
Fourth time for Valentino Rossi's Yamaha, 0.366s off the top. The Pesaro native precedes Yonny Hernandez and the world championship leader Marc Marquez, who together with Pedrosa is the only one who did not participate in the tests at the end of July.
Jorge Lorenzo is still struggling, seventh on the second Yamaha of Team Movistar. The Majorcan is 0.509s behind compatriot Vinales and precedes the Honda of Jack Miller, the Ducati GP15 of Danilo Petrucci from Terni (Pramac Racing) and the Desmosedici GP of wild card Michele Pirro. Pedrosa, who did not return to the track after the fall, is twenty-second.
Test times are still far away, but let's remember that in addition to a different Michelin tyre, the temperature is decidedly lower, with the asphalt around 15° versus the 60° recorded in the tests.
