Gauloises Yamaha Team Director, Davide Brivio, is the only one of the team to have already been to China, having recently been in Shanghai to inspect the Shanghai International Circuit.
The Italian says he is excited for the new experience that awaits them next weekend, but underlines that the main concern of the whole team remains the defense of the advantage accumulated in the first two outings of the season.

“We're all curious about being in an unfamiliar country, especially China being such a different country from ours,” Brivio said. “I have already seen the Shanghai circuit and I must say that it made a positive impression on me. The facilities are beautiful and the track looks very interesting. It has two long straights and very technical corners – an interesting mix.”

“We go to China finding ourselves at the top of the championship and, as was already the case in the last race at Estoril, our objective is to continue on this path. In Portugal we were also very satisfied with Colin's performance who would undoubtedly have finished in the top four if he hadn't suffered that crash. We know that the work done is bearing fruit. The race took place in very difficult conditions for everyone so Monday's test was very important for working on the basic set-up and solving some problems.”

Brivio also added that the day of testing the day after the two opening races of the season in Jerez and Estoril was crucial because it allowed us to accelerate the evolution of the 1 YZR-M2005. The main objective of the whole team since first outing in Sepang in January was precisely to find a good basic set up for the bike and Brivio hopes that in China the usefulness of all the work done can be confirmed.

“The basis of all our winter work was to find a starting set-up that works on any track. We suffered some delays and therefore also continued this work for the first two races of the season, but now I really hope to be able to say that we have found what we were looking for. The bike is completely new and therefore it is normal that it took some time to bring it to its maximum. We are curious to see how much we have really progressed on a new track like Shanghai.”
