Like every year, the Donington Park paddock opened its gates to two-wheel enthusiasts for the Day of Champions, a unique opportunity to experience the paddock atmosphere up close, walk in the pit lane, watch the mechanics at work, get an autograph from Sete Gibernau, meeting Colin Edwards and all the world championship riders.

But the Day of Champions is much more. The proceeds from the initiatives serve to finance the activities of the Riders for Health organization which aims to facilitate the work of healthcare personnel on the African continent by making motorbikes and vehicles available to them to reach the villages scattered across the African savannah and jungle. In fact, motorbikes are one of the most suitable means of moving around Africa - their cost is reasonable, they are versatile, and capable of reaching places where 4x4s cannot go. For example, a doctor can reach two villages of 5/600 people a day by motorbike, the alternative is to go on foot which would mean reaching a fifth fewer people.

At 17.00 pm the riders and staff of Team Telefonica MoviStar took to the stage organized for the occasion by Riders for Health to start the charity auction. Sete and Colin were warmly welcomed Sete Gibernau and Colin Edwards. In particular, the Texan was so popular with the English public that his suit was sold at auction for 5.100 pounds (7.500 euros), while Sete's suit was sold for 2100 euros (3.180 euros).

This year's proceeds will go to strengthen the many other projects aimed at reaching an ever-increasing number of people in need of healthcare.
The proceeds from the last edition of Day of Champions 2003, equal to £117,000, made it possible to finance Riders' projects in Zimbabwe, Gambia and Nigeria.
