The Australian weekend didn't start in the best way for Chris Vermeulen. The Suzuki rider (who races with the livery inspired by Barry Sheene) in fact achieved only the fourteenth time at 2.659 from the leader and compatriot Casey Stoner. Vermeulen encountered difficulties in setting up his GSV-R in less than optimal conditions given the strong winds and heavy rain. However, with the team he has identified the path to take to resolve the problems, he has the say.

“It was difficult to ride in these typical Phillip Island weather conditions. In fact it can rain and become dry again with a lot of wind in a short space of time. This made it difficult to find the right setup and a good feeling. But my team did a great job and this is important for me. We have improved and with the dry track we know in which direction to work. The wind was the most difficult thing today, it felt like someone was "moving me" so we still have to work to be able to do well tomorrow."
