Colin Edwards finished the Australian GP, the fifteenth event of the 2009 world championship, in fifth position. The Texan from Yamaha had a terrible start but then managed to recover to finish ahead of Andrea Dovizioso and Marco Melandri. Now in the standings “Texas Tornado” is only 7 points away from fifth place, occupied by the Forlì native of Team Honda Repsol. The word is up to him.

“I had a terrible start, the start of my race was really “messed up”. I almost fell asleep and when the lights went out I was “sitting” there. This put me in ninth place, but my pace was quite fast in the low 31s and I was able to catch those in front quickly. I never gave up and my pace was quite good. I saw de Angelis in front of me and tried everything I could to get closer to him. I'm tired of finishing fifth, so I gave it everything I had. But the start cost me fourth place and some precious points. Towards the end of the race I started to lose lateral grip and I couldn't do anything more to try to put pressure on De Angelis. I beat Dovizioso once again and that's all I can do to try to finish fifth in the championship. I really want fifth position to reward all my Monster Yamaha Tech 3 guys. They were great and I will give my all for them in the last two races.”
