Cal Crutchlow he closed the first day of free practice at Phillip Island with the 5th fastest time, 7 tenths behind Jorge Lorenzo. The Briton is satisfied with this start and, like all the other riders, he is very happy with the grip that there is now thanks to the new asphalt. For tomorrow he hopes to improve further, especially when braking in turn 4, a point where it is important to break away well in the race to try to pass those in front of you. Last year Crutchlow finished on the podium here and even if this year will be very difficult, he wants to try to repeat himself.

“Today was a good start – Cal Crutchlow said – and I'm satisfied to be in the top six. I would like to brake harder especially in turn 4, a place where in the race you can try to overtake the other drivers. Obviously with the new asphalt the grip is much better now, they did a really good job. Many of us are running below the track record, with a similar pace and I hope to be able to improve a little more tomorrow. Last year I finished on the podium here and it was great to celebrate with Casey and Jorge. It will be difficult to repeat this on Sunday but I want to give everything to get the best result for my team"
