At the end of a qualifying session, as usual, pole enthusiastically goes to Honda Dani Pedrosa who at the last moment takes first place from Yamaha Jorge Lorenzo. Ducati closes the front row Andrea Dovizioso who, aided by Pedrosa's wake, snatched third place at the end. In parc fermé Dovizioso went to talk to Pedrosa, telling him that by following in his wake he didn't create any problems for him.
Here, however, is what the first three said in parc fermé:

Dani Pedrosa – 1nd -: “Everyone was waiting for me, they tried twice. Even on the last lap, Dovizioso was close to me for three laps in a row. It was difficult to have hot tires but I did a great lap and it's good to start from pole. I didn't think I'd be able to improve last year's time but only because the track conditions weren't the best."

Jorge Lorenzo – 2st -:
“It's been a very good weekend so far, it's a shame I didn't get pole, I really wanted to. I didn't expect Dani to do a lap like that, my lap was almost perfect but Dani did even better. However, starting from second position is good and if the weather remains like today's we have an excellent pace for the race."

Andrea Dovizioso – 3rd -:
“I think a rider like Pedrosa who has the pace wants no one to disturb him but I just got behind him, as long as I don't disturb him he shouldn't complain. To set a time like that I had to stick to someone because we have several problems, but it was still important to take the front row here at Mugello. I'm really happy"
