Randy De Puniet achieved the eighth fastest time in qualifying for the Japanese GP today in Motegi. The French Kawasaki rider lapped in 1'46.512, a time that will allow him to start from the third row tomorrow. De Puniet used long-term tires from the start of the session but the latter did not work properly, preventing him from fighting for the top positions.

“Yesterday was a difficult day while today went better. Overnight we made changes that turned out to be spot on. This morning we were fast and we started well in the afternoon too. Since the weather was uncertain we immediately used time tires to try to start as far forward as possible. Then when the others also put on soft tires at the end of the session I lost positions and in the end I wasn't able to take advantage of the last time tyre. However, in terms of race pace, I'm pretty good and I think I can fight for the top despite my starting position.”
