Niccolò Canepa ended the first day of testing for the Japanese GP in eighteenth position. The Genoese Pramac Racing rider in fact lapped in 1'51.929, 3.384 from the best time set by Valentino Rossi and 286 thousandths of a second from his teammate Mika Kallio. The Pramac Racing rider was seeing the Motegi track for the first time and therefore this session served him to learn the trajectories. 45 minute shifts definitely don't help a rookie. He has the microphone.

“I really like the track. I used this turn to learn the best trajectories. It will be a bit difficult to reach the level of the other drivers in just two free practices of forty-five minutes each, but I will do my best. I found the circuit very slippery, especially where Mika fell. In this session I only used one rear tire for 20 laps and having recorded my best time on the last lap gives me hope for the rest of the weekend.”
