In Misano, yesterday 12 September, the Grand Prix Commission met, composed of Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, Chairman), Ignacio Verneda (CEO FIM), Herve Poncharal (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA), in the presence of Javier Alonso ( Dorna), Mike Trimby (IRTA, Secretary of the meeting) and Corrado Cecchinelli (MotoGP Director of Technology) and made the following decisions:

MotoGP class Technical Regulations

MotoGP class electronics – Immediate effect

The criterion for the use of additional sensors was confirmed. Each manufacturer can designate an additional sensor, which may not be available to all other teams. However, the data from this sensor can only be used for data logging purposes and without any effect on control strategies. In addition to the approved sensors there will also be a list of free devices which will be the only ones allowed to communicate with the ECU. Details of free devices will be published in the regulation.

Sports Regulations – 2016 Season (in force from 9 November 2015)

Testing restrictions – Moto3 and Moto2 classes

Currently, Moto3 and Moto2 riders can only test at any time on two designated circuits, one on the calendar and one that is not part of the Championship. This led to situations where some drivers with more options tested almost constantly. Resulting in problems for other teams in booking dates. In the future, drivers will be able to test at any circuit for a maximum of 10 days.

Testing Restrictions – MotoGP Class

Several changes have been approved due to the fact that there will no longer be an Open category in this class. In summary the changes are:

Manufacturers will be allowed to test with their teams and drivers for up to five days at any circuit, rather than just one designated circuit. They will be able to continue testing with the test drivers who will use the tires available for the tests.

Leased teams, who can currently only test with test drivers, will be allowed to test at each circuit for up to five days with their respective race drivers. Further trial days with testers will no longer be permitted.

There are no changes to the current restrictions for concession teams.

For all classes, authorized private tests are to be considered in addition to the official tests organized by Dorna and IRTA. The rules on the ban on testing in the period between 1 December and 31 January, or on a given circuit in the 14 days after the race, remain unchanged.

The updated version of the FIM Grand Prix Regulations, containing the details of the changes to the rules, will soon be visible on: http://www.fim-live.com/en/sport/official-documents-ccr/codes-and-regulations /
