MotoGP 2016 Michelin – Nicolas Goubert, technical director of Michelin, took stock of the situation after the Valencia tests. The riders had praised the rear of the French manufacturer, but said they were worried about the front, which had caused so many crashes.

In light of the latest tests, what is your assessment?

“It was a very important test, everyone was already focused on 2016 and we were also very lucky with the weather conditions we enjoyed. We had some very positive feedback, the lap times were fast, with as many as 15 riders within 1 second, between 31'0 and 31'9. We still have some changes to make, and for many riders it was the first time with the Michelins: they had to adapt a little and change their riding style. That's why we also recorded some unfortunate crashes. But it was still a great starting point.”

Many riders have given positive feedback for the rear, is there still room for development?

“We will have to adapt to the different conditions we will encounter. 90% of the work is done. On the front, however, we have to work a lot; but we still have a couple of months and some more tests to do. We will take advantage of the sessions and the different tracks to try to improve the whole package.”

Are you satisfied with the intermediate and wet tires or do you need a few more days of testing?

“It's always better to have as much time as possible to test, but in Brno the two Pramac riders did quite a few laps with these tires and the results were quite good. We're sure we already have a good offer in the wet, but it would be good for everyone to have a further taste."
