The two Repsol Honda Team riders intrigued by the bikes of the past
di Alessio Brunori31 July 2014
Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa had the opportunity to "get on" the world championship Hondas with six different riders. A "story" that began with the five-time world champion Mick doohan and which sees Marc Marquez as the last world champion. Other title winners are Valentino Rossi (2002), Nicky Hayden (2006) and Casey Stoner (2011). Below is the video.

Nice to see them laugh like that... after all they are still kids...
Not bad they quickly understand what problems old motorbikes can lead to and where their current ones are much better, even if unfortunately they will never be made to say in the recent future everything or everything they know and it is also normal, even if it would be nice to know that what makes their bikes successful, regardless of whether it is a Honda, a Yamaha or a Ducati...
In my opinion, when they get on board these bikes, even just when stationary, they realize how lucky they are today, and maybe in 10 years there will be two others who will think the same things about their bikes today.
In my opinion F1 drivers can make this reasoning. After King Ayrton there have been no more cases of death...
Well it's not just safety that has improved, I was talking about the technique and what it allows them to do, today they have more safety anyway from the circuits to the airbags to the electronics, but they also have more performance, but I'm talking about the technology, you see as they talk about the tank, the handlebars of the tyres, they look at those vehicles as something prehistoric, something that was the best at that time but which is not at all superior to what they have now, it is something to have respect for but also "pity" "for a rider who is not from that era it is an ancient toy, something outdated, something in which in this time, it makes no sense to "ride" if you want to win a race they are beautiful but outdated objects, "inferior" to that that they drive.
You can also see it a lot between Pedrosa and Marquez, Marc is much younger and bolder, he looks at them much more boldly but not so much with the eyes of someone who sees them as world champion bikes, sees them as bikes from the past, not as vehicles who have won world championships.
Perhaps the one for which they have shown the most disinterest is Rossi's, almost as if they were afraid of being put on top, strange is it? Something not to be desecrated because Rossi was still racing, even with Stoner's I don't think they did it.
Pilots are strange :)
PS. Reasoning made on the third viewing.. Poor Pedrosa Poor Pedrosa, look at how many bikes and none with his number... especially the 3 on the right in the video, who knows what it feels like, certainly nothing good.
I agree with this...a bit as if everyone in the company had done it except him...hahaha
My goodness, what a "motorcycle", those objects there are works of art.
Fantastic! (although I have at least 10 to add to that list).
Unfortunately, we won't see bikes like this again on the track, and I'm sorry, but the new generations (those who grew up with a Rossi in Yamaha and beyond) don't know what they missed and don't have the slightest idea of what the fantastic 500s meant...
Unimaginable!
For me, with the exit of the 500, a piece of the world championship died (not to mention the SCANDALOUS exit of the 2 and a half and the 125). And I'm sorry, but for me those were the real bikes.
I agree bcs….(and with this I take this opportunity to greet you all, including you…:-)
The 2-stroke bikes were racing bikes;
The bikes of today are no longer.
Racing motorbikes were once objects for a few, they were scary even just to feel them in motion, while today, apart from all the cycling improvements that are not discussed, from the point of view of riding difficulty they are motorbikes that have nothing to see with the true concept of a racing motorbike = racing motorbike, a motorbike which is not similar to a road motorbike, a motorbike which only a select few can ride, a motorbike which usually took years to understand, a motorbike which is difficult to tame par excellence.
Today the racing motorbike no longer exists, there are 2-wheeled objects that are a hybrid between a motorbike and a robot...
psfor the long absence I apologize, I've been to hell and back... and after what happened to me, I also wonder what happened to Fatman, because I no longer see his sarcastic comments, I hope he is well, and that he is absent only for work and not because something happened to him.
Exactly Rob, you can only know what those motorbikes were if you have seen them, this is because it is unthinkable to compare today's motorbikes to those of the past.
A completely different universe (perhaps this is an understatement).
I've already written about my first visual experience with the 500, and I highlight it as often as I can.
Nothing terrified me like those bikes!
It was a terror mixed with respect and gnawing at c…. Feelings that ranged from "I'm terrified" to "I will never be able to ride one", to the undisputed respect towards the bike and the rider who drove that crazy work of art.
An era is over, and I repeat, with his exit the TRUE world championship also ended.
Times gone by….
