MotoGP – Losail Race – Rossi to victory after Stoner's crash
Valentino Rossi achieved the 104th victory of his career in the MotoGP world championship, winning the opening race of the 2010 MotoGP at Losail. The nine-time world champion was ready to take advantage of Casey Stoner's mistake, who crashed in the first laps when he was widely in the lead with over 2 seconds ahead of the reigning world champion. Without the Ducati rider Rossi had to resist Dovizioso and Hayden, competitive in Qatar, before gaining a lead of meters which earned him this victory.
On the podium in second place was Jorge Lorenzo who managed to recover at the end of the race, passing Andrea Dovizioso, third ahead of Nicky Hayden who came close to the podium with the surviving Ducati. Without Stoner the Bologna company still managed to put a bike in the top positions and even close to Rossi's first position.
Good race also for Ben Spies who finished fifth ahead of Randy De Puniet, while Dani Pedrosa finished seventh after a very good start.
Loris Capirossi was ninth in his 300th career race, ahead of Hiroshi Aoyama and Marco Simoncelli, while Marco Melandri was 13th. Alvaro Bautista crashed on the last lap while trying to pass Simoncelli.
