GP Le Mans MotoGP Free Practice 1 – The MotoGP class riders took to the track for Free Practice 1 of the French Grand Prix (fifth stage of the 2017 world championship) with rain tyres, 11th in the air and 14th on the asphalt.

The rain had wet the track already before the Moto3 class and at least at the beginning the Top class riders had to use rain tyres, almost all of them chose the soft compound. One of the novelties of this Grand Prix is the presence of Sylvain Guintoli, who from this race replaces the injured Alex Rins on the Suzuki GSX-RR.

Up until ten minutes from the end and with rain tyres, one of the fastest was Jorge Lorenzo, second only to Marc Marquez. Afterwards almost everyone put on slick tires and at the end of the 45 minute session, the fastest was Jack Miller, who dominated once the slicks were on.

The Australian from Honda stopped the clock at a time of 1:37.467, beating his brandmate and reigning champion Marc Marquez by 1.288s. Third time for home idol Johann Zarco, first Yamaha rider. Valentino Rossi is in fact eighth and 3.427s behind while Maverick Vinales is tenth at 3.557s.

In front of them Cal Crutchlow fourth, Loris Baz fifth, Karel Abraham sixth and Bradley Smith, seventh with KTM. Temporarily out of the Top Ten and therefore theoretically out of Q2 (even if there are still FP2 and FP3) Andrea Iannone (eleventh), Jonas Folger (twelfth), Dani Pedrosa (thirteenth), Andrea Dovizioso (fourteenth), Danilo Petrucci ( fifteenth) and Jorge Lorenzo (sixteenth).
