Ben Spies would have liked to take pole position in his home Grand Prix in Indianapolis but had to give in to Casey Stoner. The Yamaha rider also had a tank problem at the end of the session which didn't help him but he is still confident for the race. He has the microphone.

“It was good today, I wasn't the fastest but we held onto the front row. We did over 30 laps on one set of tires and were quite fast. In the end we tried to overtake Casey (Stoner, poleman) but with five minutes to go I had a tank problem which didn't help me. I'm not disappointed because I knew we had a lead in fourth. We didn't have a perfect lap and Casey was too fast. I think it will be different in the race, the tires deteriorate after ten laps, but my bike is working very well on used tires so we'll see what happens."
