MotoGP Indianapolis, Free Practice: Andrea Dovizioso “The tires will be fundamental”

Andrea Dovizioso achieved the fifth fastest time on the first day of testing for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP, the twelfth stage of the 2011 world championship. The Repsol Honda Team rider from Forlì is worried about tire wear, particularly the front one. The word is up to him.

“The track improved a lot from morning to afternoon and in FP2 the lap times dropped by three seconds. With more rubber on the track, grip changed quickly and now the main issue is tire wear. This is typical of new asphalt, so we have to manage the tires carefully, with particular attention on the front tyre. The key point for the race will be tire management. I hope that the conditions will improve tomorrow too because at the moment it would be impossible to finish the race. I'm not worried about fifth position because when it was time to push we couldn't do it to save the tires for tomorrow. I am therefore confident in our competitiveness."
