MotoGP: Hervè Poncharal “Dovizioso is the right man for Ducati”

The owner of Team Tech 3 believes Ducati made the right choice

MotoGP: Hervè Poncharal “Dovizioso is the right man for Ducati”MotoGP: Hervè Poncharal “Dovizioso is the right man for Ducati”

Hervè Poncharal, owner of Team Tech 3 which this year fields the confirmed Cal Crutchlow and the rookie Bradley Smith in MotoGP, is convinced that Andrea Dovizioso is the right man to carry forward the development of Ducati. The Forlì native, formerly of Honda and Yamaha, achieved six podiums and fourth place in the world rankings last year with the SAT motorbike from the Tre Diapason company (that of the Poncharal team). With his guidance (everyone has always recognized Dovizioso's great skills as a developer) the Borgo Panigale team has halved the gap from Malaysia to Jerez. The summit is certainly still far away but the latest results give us hope.

“We know that in Ducati I'm not that far ahead of the others, but I think that perhaps Valentino (Rossi, ed.) was creating too much pressure and this doesn't help because you don't work very well under too much pressure – Poncharal told MCN – I'm not so sure that Andrea (Dovizioso, ed.) had understood what he then found. Maybe he expected to be closer to the leaders, but I also know that he didn't expect to be in front. Andrea has undertaken a new challenge. He knows it's a big challenge, but he got what he wanted. He has clearly always wanted to lead development and now it is up to him to get Ducati moving in the right direction. I think he's really excited about this, to show that he can succeed where a great driver has failed. He knows it won't be easy to reverse the trend quickly, but I'm still convinced that he is the right person they need. There is less pressure now than before.”

  • Holy words!

A year of transition for 2014 close to the first ones, and then…

YOU NEED POWER! he is the right man for rebirth!

ah, please spare me the comment of the canary X (great connoisseur) who goes so far as to say that he has never won anything and won't win anything

Well then I'll give you the canary comment
      M1Z13e14

1st I agree with you in everything.
2nd where he's a bomb but he never had a motorbike and on the Honda he finished ahead of Pedro. A great fighting talent, strong in duels with character and in my opinion he has all the cards.
Let's hope the Ducaudi gets fixed

I am of the same opinion.
Dovizioso is a resource to be exploited (see Honda... he was carrying out the project).

In my opinion, however, the real spearhead could be Iannone. A rider who has never ridden any MotoGP (except Ducati), therefore he no longer has a Japanese background (see Vale, Hayden, Melandri etc.). In my opinion, hiring a virgin driver in this sense of driving could be a winning move!

another bomb that if he had had a little more engine he could very well have won the championship

Like the canary that I am :)
I hope so... Just as I hoped that Vale would be able to win with Ducati (even though I was very skeptical from the beginning of the adventure).

I hope to see her win with Dovi, an Italian rider with an (still) Italian bike. It would be nice, both for Ducati and for Dovi, but above all for Italy.

The championship will benefit if Ducati is competitive....

But then from next year Suzuki will arrive and will kick everyone's ass, dominate the world and transform everyone into die-hard Suzuki fans :)

…ah, ah, ah…you're the only nice canary…come on Suzuki…tomorrow I'll wash the V Strom in your honor!

...you denote too much confidence...could it be too much abstinence on your part that leads you to write these fantasies? Rossi is no longer the same as before... get over it... he will win some races but it won't be so easy... I'll tell you more... he'll have to be careful not to break his leg again... when you're hanging in the race it's not like when they made custom tires for you and you could play with your opponents...

Today I proudly defended you from a canary companion.. but I am more convinced of your instinct which already makes you nervous and tightens your nerves than of your common sense.. when it comes to worth

and I WILL TELL you more..

Pedro and Lorenzo already beat them in 1st if he hadn't broken his leg I doubt that Lorenzo would have won that year and it's not worth it.. the only one who gave him anything to do was a stoner and he's not there anymore..

Marquez doesn't know.. but in my opinion he will do like Pedrosa for the first two years and will often be on the ground..

cal like all those of sbk worries me that he will be a meteor, it seems that they are all makumbati.

there will be great challenges between the 3 usual musketeers..

        Lorenzo Pedro is worth it
and Vale will be the man to beat.

So we'll silence you for a couple of years +.. then you'll be back in charge ha ha ha ha

and now a cardhu to your health

If Dovizioso was a "great rider" (with all that this means) he would have already been seen on the official HRCs.

Maybe, maybe, Dovizioso is "the greatest developer" in the world (we'll see) and therefore if the Ducati becomes a missile that can be driven by ANYONE, a lot of the credit will perhaps go to Dovi, BUT... at that point Iannone would strip it every Sunday .

The only truly "great rider" on Ducati was Stoner because he alone was the only one who succeeded where all the others had failed (so much so that in 2007, thanks also to a series of lucky coincidences, he even won a World).

You know we're almost always in tune
      But
Stoner never had any luck if he deserved it all.
the where is a phenomenon you will see. Iannone is also very similar

I'll start by saying 2 things...:

    a) with powerful motorbikes, the timing is made above all by taking care of 2 aspects... 1) braking; 2) exiting corners.
The speed with which you take corners is not fundamental when these 2 aspects are at the top, and Stoner himself showed this.

Dovizioso has always been one of the best, if not the best brawler, and if he manages to find a set-up that will allow him to brake as late as possible as he likes, he will already be halfway there.

    b) in my heart I hope that Ben Spies turns out to be the best Ducati rider, firstly because he is a person who doesn't speak much (as I have always liked riders who are either silent or of few words), I consider him a person with the right manners.
And then in my opinion he has a great talent, much greater than what he has shown up to now, everything will depend on how he gets on with this bike and with the people who will work with him.

    1. Mike58 said:

umh… :O but yes also yes..

      Rob
      Regarding Ben Spies.
I also think he has enormous talent, which at the moment has only been glimpsed. But what I think of him is that he's not in his head at the moment, plus let's consider the very serious injury (he hasn't moved his shoulder for 4 months and hasn't done any type of rehabilitation)…

In my opinion he is the driver where the team needs to work the most to get him back on track.
Both on a physical level (but here you just have to wait, once the correct training has been set), and on a mental level (and here a world opens up).
It's Ben's head that they need to focus on.

    For bcs:

    HI…:-)

I'm sure that when you hurt yourself a lot on motorbikes something goes off in your head...but...

I firmly believe in the theory of the rider/bike combination... Spies explained in a nice interview how he didn't like the Yamaha M1, he said that in his opinion it wasn't the bike for his riding style, and that not even if it 'If he had been driving for a hundred years we would never have been able to fully agree...

Having said this, I hope that once the motor problems with his shoulder have passed... the D16 will prove to be a pleasant surprise for him...
In my opinion of the 4 Ducati riders he is the most talented...
But, as we know, talent alone is not enough... so we'll see...

Certainly if I had to wish a rider to win the title... it would be Ben Spies...
For his talent, and because I like him as a person.

    1. bcs said:

That interview is already fantastic, it's in my favourites, I re-read it every now and then.

What surprised me the most is the part where he talks about the comparison of setups between him and Valentino.

It's been a long time since we've read interviews like this.

      Let's hope so….
