MotoGP GP Thailand Preview Michelin – Michelin said it was satisfied with the weekend in Buriram, where the MotoGP bikes raced for the first time during the Thai Grand Prix, fifteenth stage of the 2018 MotoGP championship.

Only the data from the February tests and the weather forecast were available, which however were not "respected". There was tremendous heat resulting in a rise in the temperature of the asphalt, but this did not affect performance, given that the French manufacturer was ready for any eventuality. These are the words of Piero Taramasso, head of the two-wheel section of Michelin Motorsport

“This was a very complex and challenging weekend. The tires were subjected to enormous stress due to the very high temperatures we experienced. When we arrived for the test we were told it would be cooler and wetter for the race, so we decided on the tire range accordingly, but the exact opposite happened. The drivers tested the entire tire selection during the test sessions and we thoroughly analyzed the performance and durability of all compounds and gave advice to all teams and drivers, as we do at every race.

We recommended the Hard rear and it was the correct choice given the consistent lap times and the great battle between Marc and Andrea in the final laps. The tires worked well throughout the race and despite the intense heat and excessive rotation it caused on an abrasive track, we are happy with the overall performance. It's never easy to decide on tires well in advance, especially for a track where we haven't raced before, but with this year's data we will certainly be in a stronger position for next season. I would also like to congratulate the organizers for such a great event, it was a pleasure to come racing in Thailand, the people were fantastic and there was a great atmosphere, we can't wait to come back next year! I would also like to thank all the teams and drivers for listening to our advice and taking the appropriate action to have such a positive experience.”
