MotoGP British GP – The disastrous accident that occurred to several pilots, in particular Tito Rabat (here the news), during the fourth free practice session highlighted the serious safety problems of the British circuit in case of rain.

The track has recently been resurfaced but in addition to the problem of 'potholes', which has not been resolved, the rain that hit the track today has highlighted serious deficits from a drainage point of view.

For tomorrow the weather forecast does not promise anything good. The premier class race has been brought forward to 12.30pm (Italian time) but an even worse disturbance than today is expected at those same times. The drivers have put together a united front, if a situation like that of FP4 were to repeat, for obvious safety reasons, they will not take to the track. Mike Webb, race director, is also of the same opinion.

At this time some works are underway along the track, in particular turns 7 and 8 which have created the most problems. Side 'drains' are being dug and the asphalt is being 'scratched' to create 'gaps'.

Loris Capirossi, three-time world champion and Dorna representative in Race Direction, took stock of the situation in an interview with Sky Sport.

“There was a meeting with all the teams to anticipate the start of the MotoGP, because little rain is forecast for the morning while there could be more in the afternoon.” Loris Capirossi said, and then added: “We preferred to bring forward the MotoGP because it is the most difficult one to ride with a lot of water. We are evaluating because we don't want any rider, not even Moto2 or Moto3, to take risks. In turns 7 and 8, significant puddles are created and if they also form during the race, he will stop. I spoke to all the riders and they explained the problem to me. Tonight we will work to try to resolve the problem but we don't know if it will resolve the issue. They've done some work here but they must have changed the slope of the track, so we don't know if we'll be able to resolve it."
