MotoGP | GP Qatar Day 1: Maverick Vinales, “We can improve during the weekend”

MotoGP GP Qatar Yamaha Monster 2021 – Maverick Vinales closed the first day of free practice at the Qatar Grand Prix, the first stage of the 2020 MotoGP, with the sixth fastest time.

The Yamaha Spaniard closed the first free practice session with the sixth fastest time, just under 4 tenths from the top, but focusing mainly on his pace. In the second session the #12 lost a bit of feeling but replicated the morning's position, finishing just over two tenths from the top.

“We had to wait a long time to start the season. I think we picked up in FP1 where we left off during the Qatar test. Everything was working well and I felt great on the bike on the track, holding lines and riding smoothly. In the evening we felt a little different than we felt during the test. The track is certainly not in the same condition, but we are sure that we can improve during the race weekend. The bike is working well, it's just the conditions that are different, so we need to understand the set-up. For tomorrow we will focus on the balance of the bike to see if we can improve. I know we'll fix it. I'm looking forward to doing more laps tomorrow.”
