MotoGP: British GP, no Donington, back to Silverstone?

The 2015 British Grand Prix seemed to be in the hands of Donington, after the Welsh circuit had chosen this destination while waiting to see its own track born. It would have been a welcome return for the drivers, who raced there from 1987 to 2009.

The latest rumors, however, see a return of flame for Silverstone, at least this is what the British media, including Crash.net, are reporting.

From Donington Park they said: “The Circuit of Wales company and its new subsidiary GP15 Limited have been unable to complete their agreement with DPRL [Donington Park] on long-planned payment terms, which would have allowed Donington Park to have his GP again. The situation as of February 10, 2015 is very clear. Despite DPRL's efforts, the accumulated backlog caused critical delays. Donington Park must therefore withdraw from any further participation. As a result, the 2015 British round of the FIM MotoGP World Championship will not take place at Donington Park on 30 August 2015.”

This is a bolt from the blue, which re-proposes the candidacy of Silverstone, which had offered its best to maintain MotoGP. However, the coincidence of the date must be considered, given that the World Series by Renault package is scheduled for 30 August (the scheduled date for Donington) at Silverstone.

Below is what Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone, said when he learned he would miss the GP: “We have invested heavily in the circuit and facilities here at Silverstone, specifically to host MotoGP and the British Grand Prix has been a hugely successful event. We would have liked to keep MotoGP at Silverstone, but we can't afford to subsidize it. We are extremely disappointed that we will not be able to host the event in 2015.” Now everything seems to have changed again!
