MotoGP GP Phillip Island Yamaha Race – Maverick Vinales won the Australian Grand Prix, seventeenth stage of the 2018 Motorcycle World Championship.

After a disastrous start, the Yamaha Spaniard managed to recover ground in just a few laps and took the lead of the race in just a few steps, where he remained until the checkered flag.

No one was able to keep up with the #25 who, with a counter-trend move, a soft tire on the front, managed to make the difference, bringing Yamaha back to victory after a 25-race drought.

These are the words of Maverick Vinales: “It was a tough time. In the Warm Up I didn't push that much. I got off to a terrible start and didn't expect it. I had prepared everything to be able to do a race like this. The team worked well. It was good to tell Yamaha to give me a bike that could work well for me, and in fact today we won. We did team work. The bike suited my riding style, and with no wind this helped. Managing the tires wasn't easy in the end, I saw that Andrea recovered a second per lap but in the end I managed to push. I wasn't afraid. I had already tried the soft, the problem was the rear. We handled everything perfectly and it was the right choice. In my opinion I've done well because I've opened up lately. The team is nicer to me now, maybe before I was the one who pushed them away, now it's different. This is a team. I managed to give something more than what the bike gave. Ramon is a magnificent coach, it's difficult to find someone like him, but after the difficult period we moved away and now that I have more confidence I'm sure I can build a good team."
