The Spaniard recovers and closes close to the podium
MotoGP GP Assen Aprilia Race – Furious comeback for Aleix Espargarò in the last Dutch Grand Prix in Assen, 11th round of the 2022 MotoGP world championship.
In the first part of the race, the Spaniard was involved in an episode with Fabio Quartararo in turn 5 which caused him to slip from 2nd to 15th position, far from the top positions in the standings. Despite this, however, the Iberian took advantage of the great pace of his RS-GP to climb up to fourth place, gaining fundamental points for the chase to the title (the same episode forced the Frenchman from Yamaha to retire).

“The final overtaking at the double chicane? I honestly don't know, I was constantly looking at my dash to keep the pace as constant as possible. I always tried to maintain the 32"5 and always gave everything. In the end we can be satisfied with fourth place, but unfortunately it's not the podium and I think we had the pace to win.
But the races are here, let's accept the result and move on. Let's look at the positive side, today the Aprilia was perfect, impressive, and all this confirms the great work that the team is doing. I wanted to go on holiday with less than 24 points behind Fabio and this, also seeing the opportunity generated by his crash, pushed me to give my all for the whole race. As for the episode of the first laps, Quartararo has great confidence with the bike and this allows him to ride aggressively, every corner and every lap.
We also saw him at the Sachsenring with “Pecco”. Here he tried to pass me but his steering closed and he fell. Furthermore, I hadn't even seen it. Races are like this, today it happened to him, tomorrow it could happen to me."
