MotoGP: Giovanni Cuzari “Next year we will no longer build the bike chassis ourselves”

The Forward team will take to the track in 2015 with not one, but two Yamaha M1s

The Forward Racing team has decided to definitively abandon the project of building its own chassis. In fact, last year the Italian team took to the track with two different bikes: one, the Yamaha Open given to Aleix Espargarò, which was nothing more than an official M1 2013 version, while the other bike, ridden by Colin Edwards first and by Alex De Angelis then, it had a Yamaha engine and Ftr chassis. This year, however, both bikes will be 1% M100s.

“I think we need to abandon the idea of building our own bike frame – Giovanni Cuzari told MCN owner of the team - in 2016 we will all have the same electronics and I think it makes no sense to invest resources to make a new frame and swingarm when I am sure that those supplied by Honda and Yamaha are the top. For me the future of MotoGP is simple: the manufacturers take to the track with the official bikes, while the private teams use the factory bikes from the previous year. For this reason, I repeat, it makes little sense to build our own frame and swingarm"

I didn't know this. Maybe that's also why there was the huge gap between Aleix Espargarò and Edwards, there were almost 2 seconds. They're not all chassis, but maybe that had an influence a little.

However, it makes me strange to hear that Espargarò's car was an official 1 m2013, especially because it took too many km/h in a straight line from the official 2013 ones from tech3...boh

Cuzari plays a bit of a fox with the grapes, changing opinions depending on convenience…

However there are some inaccuracies. Forward started 2014 with a Yamaha engine, frame and swingarm (with 3 Tech2013 spec), the remaining components supplied by FTR.
Starting at Mugello Edwards received a HARRIS chassis (not FTR)

I like your nickname... I met Doug and in those years he was one of the strongest, one of my favourites... he rode Ducati, I won't say anything else otherwise the menestra duo will get upset!!!
