Colin Edwards, after having raced a "life" on official and satellite bikes between Superbike (where he was also world champion) and MotoGP, is racing this year with the Suter BMW CRT in the premier class. The performance of the bike is still very far from that of the prototypes but the result of the ART Aprilia of Randy De Puniet's Team Aspar gives rise to hope. The word is up to him.

“At the moment we are not at the same level as De Puniet. Aprilia obviously has a lot of information and therefore has less gap – Edwards told MCN – Our bike is more difficult to ride. We have to play a lot with the electronics and the gearbox and we understood this in Jerez. We had the gearbox too short, but we also need to work on the chassis, understand why we have chattering and why our bike is very stiff. The Aprilia seems like an easier bike. Randy (De Puniet) can open the throttle soon, we are still far away. He lapped constantly at a pace of 1'41, while we could do it for just one lap, not twenty. It's impressive to see it up there and close right behind the prototypes that spent millions and millions of budgets. This is the Carmelo formula (Ezpeleta CEO Dorna). He predicted that we would be on the fringes of prototypes and therefore we must work to reach that level as soon as possible.”

To me this formula with CRT motorbikes seems like a bit of a rip-off, then I'll be wrong. Imagine if in the first race a CRT were to win and not an official motorbike.

Randy De Puniet! Mito, last year with Buatista's bike (Suzuki) without ever having tried it before, he set the best times of his official rider... it's still far from Honda and Yamaha but let's not forget 3 liters more fuel than factory riders...
