Marc Marquez's victory in Germany meant the Spaniard finished on the podium in three or more consecutive races for the first time since podium finishes at Mugello, Catalunya, Assen and Sachsenring last year.

Maverick Vinales maintained his second place in the rankings with his fourth place in Germany, maintaining his record of being in first or second place since the start of the season.

Despite having lost the championship lead, Andrea Dovizioso with 123 points is the second Ducati rider with the highest points after the first nine races of the year; Casey Stoner scored 148 points at the same point in the season in 2009.

The Czech Republic will be Valentino Rossi's 22nd year of racing and the Brno circuit, like Jerez, is the only one where he has always raced since the beginning of his career. In 2010 he missed Mugello, Catalunya and Assen due to an injury in practice for the Italian GP.

Jonas Folger's second place in Germany was the second podium by a German rider in MotoGP since the 2002 class was replaced by MotoGP in 500. The other second place was taken by Stefan Bradl at Laguna Seca in 2013. It was also the first podium for a German rider in the Top class since Ernst Hiller came third on a Kawasaki in the 500cc class race in 1971. Ernst Hiller he reached the podium again in Germany in 1973 at the age of 44, finishing in third place in the West German Grand Prix at Hockenheim in a race where sixth place was his son Reinhard Hiller.

With his second place at the Sachsenring, Jonas Folger is now just 13 points behind teammate Johann Zarco in the battle to be the first MotoGP rookie. The Tech3 team had its first rookie in eight of nine races in 2017, only missing it in the first race of the year, when Johann Zarco crashed with Alex Rins in 9th place, just ahead of Jonas Folger.

In the German GP Folger became the fourth Yamaha rider to reach the podium in the MotoGP class in 2017. The only other time in the MotoGP era that 4 riders from the Tre Diapason manufacturer had reached the podium was in 2012, which was achieved on Factory rider Jorge Lorenzo, Tech 3 riders Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow and Katsuyuki Nakasuga (replacing Ben Spies).

Dani Pedrosa's third place at the Sachsenring was the 149th time the Spaniard has finished on the podium during his career. He has one more podium and will be the third rider ever to achieve this result, joining Giacomo Agostini (159 GP podiums) and Valentino Rossi (225).

Cal Crutchlow's win at Brno last year was the first Top Class win by a British rider in thirty-five years since Barry Sheene won the Anderstorp 500cc Swedish Grand Prix on a Yamaha on 16 August 1981.

Pol Espargaro finished 13th in Germany, just 32.179 seconds behind race winner Marc Marquez, the smallest gap for a KTM rider in his debut year in MotoGP.

In the German Grand Prix Danilo Petrucci became the first rider from an independent Ducati team to qualify on the front row in three consecutive races. Cal Crutchlow achieved it in 2013 riding a Yamaha.

Mixed fortunes for Scott Redding in 2017: at the Dutch TT he set the fastest lap of the race and then eight days later in Germany his fastest lap of the race was the slowest of all twenty-four riders.
