Catalan GP MotoGP Qualifying – Qualifying for the MotoGP class in Barcelona was orphaned by Valentino Rossi, who in Q1 by just 40 thousandths failed to hit the second time that would have allowed him to access the final phase, Q2, where Jonas Folger entered instead and Maverick Viñales. An uphill race therefore promises to be an uphill race for the Yamaha rider from Pesaro, given that he will have to start from the fifth row.

Returning to Q2, in the 15-minute "Time Attack" it was Dani Pedrosa who took pole (second pole of the year), who took the Repsol Team Honda to the top of the time rankings with a time of 1'43.870. The rider from Sabadell, a small town a few km from the circuit, preceded his Ducati compatriot Jorge Lorenzo, 0.331s behind Pedrosa.

Danilo Petrucci's qualifying was stratospheric, as after reaching the podium at Mugello, he achieved the third fastest time, just 19 thousandths of a second behind Lorenzo.

The second row will be opened by Marc Marquez, who also crashed in qualifying, this time at turn 5. With him his compatriots Aleix Espargarò (Aprilia) and Hector Barberà (Ducati).

Third row for the Mugello winner Andrea Dovizioso, for the rookie Jonas Folger and for the world championship leader Jonas Folger. Alvaro Bautista, Scott Redding and Andrea Iannone will start from the fourth row, while as written above Valentino Rossi will start from the fifth row, together with Johann Zarco and Jack Miller.

    Compared to FP3, strange qualifications.

This GP is influenced even more than Le Mans by the tests just carried out, the Yamahas are arriving very late, certainly the FP1 hindered by the rain did not help and the asphalt and the modification of the track help even less.

It will be a strange race, it won't be like the one in Mugello where the bikes, riders and tires will be pushed to the limits.

Here the asphalt and tires really seem to castrate the bikes and the riders.

Marquez was very fast in practice, but he kept rolling out over and over again.

Pedrosa was the best, but the problem of tire wear is just as valid for him as for the others. We'll see if starting from the front and the fact that he is lighter will give him a small advantage over the race distance, but with these tires and in based on the choice of each driver we have to ask ourselves how they will cover the race distance, who will have understood how to make them last until the end? In the last few races Dovizioso seems to have been one of the best at finding the right rhythm, but Barcelona is not Mugello.

If Pedrosa is a favorite, Lorenzo could be another, at least for the front positions, but at Mugello he did not show that he has the same ability to manage the tires over the race distance as Dovizioso.
