MotoGP Austin Qualifying, Marc Marquez: “Important and exciting pole but the race counts”
The Honda rookie beats the record held by Freddie Spencer
Marc Marquez achieved his first MotoGP pole today in Austin, in his second race in the Top Class. The Honda rookie (who achieved it with a time of 2'03.021), thus beats the record held by Freddie Spencer, who until today was the youngest rider to have obtained a pole in the premier class. Marquez in fact achieved this "milestone" today at 20 years and 62 days, while the American did it in Jarama at 20 years and 153 days. The Spaniard from the Repsol Honda Team dominated the session and only his team-mate Dani Pedrosa managed to get closer to him. The word is up to him.
“We are all happy of course, because we got our first pole position, which is always an important and exciting thing! We knew in advance that we could fight for pole, but you never know what can happen during practice. Both Dani (Pedrosa, ed.) and Jorge (Lorenzo, ed.) were fast in the single lap, but we managed to overtake them. The important thing, however, is the race, it will be long and physical with many changes of direction to face. We have to be ready, because tomorrow is what really matters and I will do the best I can!”
