MotoGP Assen, Free Practice 2: Marquez fastest in the wet, bad fall for Lorenzo

Yamaha's #99 appears to have suffered a fracture to his left collarbone

The second free practice session of the MotoGP class in Assen (held in the rain) was characterized by a bad fall, which saw the reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo as the protagonist. The Yamaha rider actually fell at high speed when the front wheel of his YZR-M1 grazed the curb. The #99 was thrown from his bike, falling heavily to the ground.

Once he got up after the bad flight, the Majorcan immediately made it clear that something was wrong, holding the left side of his body with his hand. He was then transported to the medical center for the necessary checks. It seems the problem is in the left collarbone. A bad blow for the Yamaha Spaniard, who trails his compatriot Pedrosa by seven points in the world championship.

As for the times, the fastest was Honda rookie Marc Marquez, who stopped the clock at a time of 1:47.617. The #93, despite never having tested here with the MotoGP, immediately became a leading player, ahead of our Valentino Rossi's Yamaha by just 252 thousandths. The Pesaro native was confident for this race after the recent tests in Aragon and at the moment the performance seems to prove him right.

Behind him were two other Hondas, that of world championship leader Dani Pedrosa and that of Stefan Bradl's Team LCR. The two Ducatis of the internal team of Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden follow, who managed to limit the damage in the wet, remaining about a second from the top.

The reds from the Borgo Panigale factory are followed by the Yamaha SAT of Cal Crutchlow's Team Tech 3 and the Ioda Suter BMW of the excellent Danilo Petrucci. The Terni rider from the Came Iodaracing Team is in fact the first CRT on the time list, a great satisfaction for himself and his team. Behind Petrucci we find Hernandez, Laverty, Corti, (all with CRTs) and the prototypes of Alvaro Bautista and Michele Pirro, the former riding the Honda of Team Gresini, the latter riding the Ducati “LAB” of Team Pramac.

Seventeenth is the time of Jorge Lorenzo, who however, as written at the beginning, was the victim of a fall that could have repercussions from a world championship perspective. In fact, if the first rumors were confirmed (displaced collarbone fracture) the Majorcan would find himself sidelined, at least for a while (he will certainly miss Saturday's race), even if the Sachsenring is still two weeks away.

      You are truly mentally ill!!!

Come on Jorge... grit your teeth and see you soon!

...I'm not joking, I really feel it...everyone will fall and he will win by distance over Hernandez!

It's difficult to understand whether Lorenzo's fall was triggered by the front or the rear.
After watching the slow motion several times, it almost looked like he had touched the line with the rear, that the bike had crossed over, but the front was also very close to the white line as he turned, and there seemed to be a long puddle around the lines that almost caused aquaplaning, and then the high-side.

The electronics didn't do their job, and Jorge fell at high speed, sliding for a hundred meters, between the track and gravel.

At first it seemed like a problem with his wrist from the way he was holding it, it took them a very long time to take him to the mobile clinic in the ambulance.

From experience (I didn't see many when I worked in the world championship) I can tell you that in these conditions if you touch the white line you can't do anything with it...
Either you have ass, or otherwise you fly, and these are often ruinous.
Electronics are useless in these cases, they have never done anything in such conditions...

It was a very small mistake on his part, electronics had nothing to do with it.

This is because the leak/slip is due to the tire slipping, in short, "keep going", you can't do anything about it anymore except hope not to get hurt, which unfortunately happened.

Yes, I think that with the track so wet there was little that could be done, moreover I'm not sure that he touched the white line. The bad luck is that if you look at some photos that are online which I believe are taken from the film, you can see that along the white line, in the internal part of the circuit, there was a lot of water for another 10-15cm of width, and I think that even that puddle next to the line didn't help, and maybe even just by ending up in it the bike started aquaplaning for a fraction of a second, crossing over and then causing the high-side.

The problem is that in addition to being thrown around a lot, he was very, very fast and falling so badly gave him little escape.
Unfortunately it's racing, and sooner or later a bad fall probably happens to everyone, Lorenzo hadn't been seriously hurt for a while, but I think his season is over now, even if he'll be back in 2 or 3 GP's I see it difficult to return to high levels with the shoulder not yet 100%.

I hope that Lorenzo did not suffer any serious damage. The fall seems to have been triggered by the rear, furthermore Lorenzo and Marquez used the hard choice on the rear which I frankly don't understand.

Confirmed (displaced) fracture of the left clavicle. The Yamaha rider should go directly to Barcelona for surgery

Alessio Brunori has already answered you. So I renew my request:

you are delirious brother, you have your beliefs and don't pretend to convince me as I don't pretend to convince you......the facts are very different and you know it...yeah, sorry you worked in the MotoGP, that's fine...... HI .
I am saddened for Lorenzo as I am for all the riders who get hurt, you are probably happy that perhaps the podium is getting closer. God save us from the wolves* with the lamb's skin on them.

        * one-eyed Taliban to boot.

Poor Mugello, you're in a bad way, you know?
        Envy is a nasty beast….
Poor thing, TAKE CARE and look up the history of the world championship on wiki, maybe you'll understand (you need brains) something more...

Poor Mugello, how inept you are.

You don't reply in that discussion because you don't know what to answer... It's your umpteenth figure... Use the other nickname you've already given, at least you'll remain incognito for a few days...

You're right, but unfortunately God also made sure that there are people in the world who are worthless.

      5. bcs said:

if you think in those terms (i.e. you find satisfaction in seeing some pilot get hurt), it doesn't mean that everyone thinks like you...
There are people who have a brain…
If you are used to this, it doesn't mean that others are too... But who knows, maybe you are among those "people" who enjoyed when Valentino got hurt in 2010...

I experience the world championship differently... Not you, you're yet another fan who isn't worth a damn*

A real shame for Jorge, really.

Honestly, you're tired (not to use the term "you've broken your balls*) with this story of "he'll win by detachment"...
The first time I smiled, the second too, from the third onwards I didn't... You're tired!

    1. Mugello said:

and he will really win by detachment, then what do you do and apologize to him.
I have the impression that you are one... or did you work in the world championship or not??

      maybe…………….

      maybe maybe…………….

On the other hand, you can only reply in these terms, since you are unable to do anything else…. You have proven it several times…

Poor thing... But poor people especially those who have to put up with your presence in life.

Poor inept, I can only pity you….
