Aleix Espargarò could become CRT world champion as early as next Sunday at Phillip Island. The Spanish rider from Team Aspar, who rides an ART Aprilia CRT, has a 51 point advantage over Colin Edwards, who rides an FTR Kawasaki from Team NGM Mobile. The Espargarò-ART pairing went strong right from the start, while the American only managed to match the performance of the Italian-Spanish pairing in the last few races.

“If they had told me at the start of the season that we would arrive in Australia with the possibility of winning the CRT title I wouldn't have believed it. Both the team and I are very satisfied with the work we have done so far and with the season so far, but I have the feeling that we could have done a little better, especially during the last few races. We have the potential to fight with the internal team Ducatis. The Australian round is one of my favourites, it's a wonderful circuit. We have everything to be happy and do our best on the track to get the best result. It's one of the best weekends of the year, so we'll go there and see if we can clinch the CRT title. Of the three consecutive races (Sepang, Phillip Island and Motegi) this is the track best suited to the characteristics of our bike.”
