MotoGP Mike Trimby – Mike Trimby will be named MotoGP Legend in 2024, honoring a life dedicated to Grand Prix racing. Trimby is the founder and CEO of IRTA, he was one of the most important figures in the history of motorcycle Grand Prix racing playing a fundamental role in shaping the sport that MotoGP has become.

To celebrate his contributions to the sport, he will become the first person to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for his work off the track.

Trimby however began his career as a driver and mechanic in the 60s. However, he soon began to emerge as a key figure off the track and established himself as such in the late 70s. In 1982, the drivers officially asked Trimby to serve as their representative, which was further formalized a few years later with the founding of the International Road Racing Teams Association (IRTA) in 1986, with Trimby at the helm.

A supporter of drivers and teams, IRTA has remained a key part of the sport. The enormous progress made in security since the organization was founded is largely due to the work done by Trimby, his wife Irene and the IRTA.

1992 also marks the beginning of the great collaboration between the FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports, which also owes much to the foundations laid by IRTA in the previous decade, giving a voice to riders and teams.

Trimby will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a ceremony during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, officially becoming a MotoGP legend.

Statements by Irene Trimby on Mike Trimby MotoGP Legend

“Mike would have been so honored to receive this prestigious award, and everyone who knew him knows he never expected it either. It's wonderful to have his work and legacy recognized in this way, although I'm sure he may have even been a little embarrassed to see us hold a ceremony and present him with a trophy! It is also something very special for me, for all those who worked closely with him and for all those who continue to miss him greatly. A thousand thanks."

Statements Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports on Mike Trimby MotoGP Legend

“Mike's contribution to Grand Prix racing is truly monumental and we are proud to name him a MotoGP legend. Since the concept of MotoGP Legends was born, it has never been just about numbers. There are no criteria based on simple race wins or number of championships, it's about contributing to the sport, whether that's off the track, on the track or a combination of the two. So it's fitting that Mike becomes the first figure honored solely for his off-track impact, as his work in the sport has been second to none. It will be an honor for us, and for me, to induct Mike into the Hall of Fame. We will miss him greatly and will continue to run in memory of him.”
