MotoGP Ducati Gresini – Frankie Carchedi, Marc Marquez's chief technician, explained that the first races will be fundamental to understanding the progress of the 2024 MotoGP season.

The eight-time world champion's move from Honda to Ducati was and is undoubtedly the topic of the 2024 season and recent tests have confirmed that the speed is still there, even if the "dry" lap in Sepang was more problematic compared to Valencia.

Before the inaugural race in Qatar there will only be two more days of testing, on 19 and 20 February at the Lusail International Circuit.

Frankie Carchedi statements on Marc Marquez MotoGP 2024

“All I can say is that as the year goes on we will get better. It's all about the first 3-4 races, how high the starting level is and how much you have to build. Then we will understand better what season we can have – Carchedi told Crash.net – Doing a test before Qatar on the same track helps, but when you go to Portimao, you have about 20 laps and then you have to do Q2 directly. That's when you realize how ready you are. Because you have to have a package, a base, everything that works right away. Then we will have a clearer idea (of what we can do over the course of a season, ed.). It has happened in the past that a rider didn't want to change something specific because of previous experience (on a different bike, ed.) and then in the end he realized that on a different bike it gives a completely different sensation."
