GP Portugal MotoGP 2024 Yamaha – Alex Rins immediately found a good feeling with his Yamaha YZR-M1 on the Algarve circuit in Portimao, where the second stage of the 2024 MotoGP will take place.

The Spanish Yamaha rider, after finishing FP1 in seventh place, achieved direct access to Q2 with tenth in the afternoon session.

With yellow flags on the track, he saved his tires as much as possible before pushing to the limit on his 22nd and final lap. His 1'38.560 took him 0.503s off the top, earning him a place in Q2.

Statements Alex Rins Day 1 GP Portugal MotoGP 2024

“The bike is the same as in Qatar. We didn't have time to try new things, but from FP1 onwards I felt confident. This track is quite different from Lusail and I was able to adapt much quicker. In free practice I was quite competitive and managed to get into Q2. It's a great result for me, for a long time I wasn't able to get into Q2, also due to the leg problem. Many GPs have passed since I last got to Q2 and we have room for improvement. We have similar points of improvement to what we had in Qatar, so we are gathering information and improving the things we have and trying to get as much benefit as possible.”
