MotoGP | Portuguese GP Day 1, Quartararo: “Fantastic to get to Q2”

GP Portugal MotoGP 2024 Yamaha – Fabio Quartararo said he was very satisfied for having achieved direct access to Q2 in Portimao, theater of the Portuguese Grand Prix, the first European round of the 2024 MotoGP.

The 2021 MotoGP champion pushed hard, finishing ninth less than half a second from the top, an unexpected result. “El Diablo” had to wait until the last minutes to set a 1'38.552 on lap 19/20 which propelled him directly into Q2.

“It was fantastic to get into Q2. We managed to set a good lap at the end of the session. We made some mistakes today and there are some things to fix, so hopefully we can use tomorrow morning to do a little better. I think it's great for Yamaha to see both riders pushing 100%. I think Alex and I push each other to improve and that we can do a great job together by continuing to work in this direction. The bike feels quite good but, unfortunately, yesterday it rained a lot and there was a lot of dust, so the track didn't have much grip, but I think it's good to be in Q2 racing in these conditions.”
