MotoGP GP Valencia 2 Yamaha MotoGP Race – Joan Mir, finishing in seventh position at the Valencia Grand Prix, became the 2020 MotoGP world champion. A title that came after a hard-fought season during which he achieved a victory and 6 other podiums.

We remind you that the Majorcan rider, student of Chico Lorenzo (father of Jorge Lorenzo) is in his second season in the premier class and is at his second title after the one won in Moto3 in 2017 and brings the title back to Suzuki after 20 years, when it was Kenny Roberts Jr. to win.

Statements Joan Mir Valencia GP 2 MotoGP Race

“It's something you mark your whole life and eventually when you reach it you're in shock. I need a couple of hours to understand what we did. I still don't believe it. This is the best day of my life, but getting here has been tough. When I was little we had no money to pay the team and the only option was to win. And that was incredible pressure. My father didn't have the money to pay the team, but only to pay the coaches. All the sacrifices made today have paid off. This was a tough race, luckily it came after last week's win. The key point of the season was the first race in Austria, where I made the podium and then the victory last week. Today I wasn't calm, I pushed as hard as I could, but if I had pushed more I would have crashed because today was difficult. We also have to do this type of competition. A seventh place is points. I didn't expect to fight for the world championship this year. I expected more in the next ones. Now we will also fight for the next few years. The most difficult adversaries are Covid-19 and all the pilots. It was stressful to see that I was at the top of the leaderboard, but it didn't take much to lose everything. This pressure has made many mistakes. I came to Chico Lorenzo in my first year. I've always worked hard but at 9 years old I didn't have a goal, I just wanted to have fun. If I have to dedicate this victory to someone, I dedicate it to all the people who have suffered in this terrible year, not to a country or to Suzuki, but to the people. I hope I've made just one person happy with this season.”
