MotoGP | Barcelona GP Qualifying: Pole for Morbidelli, followed by Quartararo and Rossi
On the day of the announcement of the move to Petronas, Rossi hits the front row
MotoGP Catalan GP Qualifying – Franco Morbidelli obtained pole position for the Catalunya Grand Prix, scheduled for tomorrow on the Montmelò circuit in Barcelona.
The Italian-Brazilian driver of Team Petronas who obtained the first pole in the Top Class, set the best performance with a time of 1:38.798, the only driver to go below the "wall" of one minute and 39 minutes.
In the front row there will be two other Yamahas, that of team-mate Fabio Quartararo, 0.210s behind, and that of Valentino Rossi, who after officially announcing the passage in Petronas (they will exchange bikes with Quartararo, ed.), sets the third fastest time, 0.331s behind his student at the VR46 Riders Academy. It has never happened before that three Yamahas started from the front row in Barcelona.
Breaking the dominance of the Iwata manufacturer is Jack Miller, fourth on the Ducati of Team Pramac and who will share the second row with the winner of Misano 2 Maverick Vinales and his brand mate Johann Zarco, Ducati Avintia.
Pol Espargarò will open the third row where we also find Joan Mir with the Suzuki and Danilo Petrucci with the Ducati. The rider from Terni, who had a gap of 0.843s from the top, preceded Brad Binder's KTM, Takaaki Nakagami's Honda and Miguel Oliveira's KTM.
Qualifying to forget for Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Pramac) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), who failed to get through Q1 and who will start from the fourteenth and seventeenth place. It promises to be an uphill race for them.
