MotoGP 2020 Yamaha Petronas – Franco Morbidelli spoke about the season which will begin on July 19th and which will see the riders take to the track without an audience due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Thirteen races are currently on the calendar, the first in Jerez on 19 July, which will be followed by another on the Andalusian circuit the following week. In Italy the race will take place in Misano on 13 and 20 September.

Franco Morbidelli MotoGP 2020 Covid-19 statements

“We will have a calendar of 13 races, perhaps a total of 16 including Malaysia for this 2020! Of course, it won't be a normal season, but this is what is possible at the moment, I think we just have to be happy. We will really miss the fans and the normal atmosphere of the GP weekend, but we understand that this is a temporary situation and we will soon return to normal life. To get there, we must continue to act safely and responsibly. Dorna and IRTA were able to organize what seemed impossible, so now we have to follow all their advice and avoid any last minute problems. It will be a very “tight” calendar with 13 races in 18 weeks, so no mistakes can be made and it will be really difficult without rest. It will be interesting to see how everyone approaches this challenge. As an Italian, I have a bittersweet calendar because we won't be able to race at Mugello (although I will be able to train in that special place) but we will be able to race at Misano twice. We recently toured Misano with the Yamaha R1, so we have to take advantage of this! It's really important to have a date on the horizon and work, because you don't know how difficult it is to prepare for an unconfirmed goal. I can't wait to see the Team guys in Spain and ride my #21 YZR-M1 again.”
