During the fourth free practice session, the Yamaha rider showed an excellent race pace, similar to that of the favourite, Marc Marquez. In qualifying, after a difficult start, the #12 managed to find the rhythm and entered the top positions after the second outing. In the final he lost second place by just six thousandths.

Statements by Maverick Vinales GP Germany MotoGP Qualifying

“Very nice qualification. I didn't do my best, because I didn't do the best lap on the second run because it closed in front of me in turn 12. But that was the limit. We worked well for the race. I felt good in FP4. Starting on the front row is always the goal. I am happy and satisfied. We'll see tomorrow. In FP4 we had a good pace, close to Marquez. We need to understand how he leads and learn. If I can follow Marc in the first laps maybe I can learn better. Ultimately no one wants to shoot first. I was sixth or seventh so I had to shoot and do my time. If I had better weather I would have waited. The goal today was the front row, we achieved it and we'll see tomorrow."
