MotoGP Australian GP Phillip Island Free Practice 2 – The riders of the MotoGP class approached the second free practice session of the Australian Grand Prix (seventeenth round of the 2019 MotoGP championship) as a real qualifying round.

The rain that fell at Phillip Island in FP1, but above all the weather forecast for FP3 meant that the 21 riders (Fabio Quartararo absent after the fall of the morning shift) immediately got on the track looking for the best lap.

The fastest at the end of the session was Maverick Vinales, who set the best time with a time of 1:28.824, the only rider to break the "wall" of one minute and 29 minutes.

The Yamaha rider preceded Andrea Dovizioso's Ducati GP19 by almost half a second, which in turn was ahead of Cal Crutchlow's Honda by just 5 thousandths.

Danilo Petrucci from Terni set the fourth fastest time ahead of his teammate Jack Miller and Marc Marquez's Honda. The #93 of the Repsol Honda team had a disagreement with his teammate Jorge Lorenzo; at the end of the session in the last stretch of the circuit Marquez found himself in the path of the Majorcan, who was significantly slower (he finished sixteenth, ed.), between the two there was contact and the right wing of the #99. He protests quite a bit of controversy from Marquez, who scolded Lorenzo several times during the starting test.

Returning to the rankings, a good performance by Valentino Rossi, seventh and ahead of the Suzuki of Alex Rins and his brand mate Franco Morbidelli (Yamaha Petronas SRT). Aleix Espargarò's Aprilia is also in the provisional and “virtual” Top Ten Q2.

Difficult session for Johann Zarco, who after debuting on the 213 Honda RC2018V of Team LCR in the wet (FP1), finished fifteenth, 1.617 from the top, but still ahead of Lorenzo.
