MotoGP Australian GP Phillip Island Yamaha MotoGP Day 1 – Maverick Vinales closed the first day of free practice for the Australian Grand Prix, seventeenth stage of the 2019 MotoGP, in first position.

The Yamaha Spaniard managed to be very fast in all conditions. In the first free practice session he made a gap on a wet track and in the Australian afternoon he did it again.

“I feel really good. I've always found the lap times to be exceptional at this track, so I'm quite happy. We had a very good set up and I did a lot of laps, even in the wet, because it's always difficult here. You need to warm up the tires very well, you need to keep driving at a constant pace, so I'm actually quite happy with today's results. It's too early to understand what the race will be like. We showed good pace today, but we have to keep working. The race is a completely different story, we'll see on Sunday. But I feel good with the set-up of the bike, and that's the most important thing right now. The 2020 Michelin tires look good. They are very consistent, this is an important point, I am happy with the work they have done.”
