The Moto3 class opened the MotoGP weekend as usual. At Sachsenring, the eighth stage of 2013, the drivers took to the track under cloudy skies and an air temperature of around 13°.

The fastest of these free practice 1 (lasting 40 minutes) was Luis Salom, riding the KTM of Team Red Bull Ajo. The world championship leader stopped the clock at a time of 1:28.069, a time of just 91 thousandths better than that set by his compatriot Alex Rins, riding the KTM of Team Estrella Galicia.

Third time for Maverick Vinales, riding the Team Calvo KTM. The #25, which has a delay of 334 thousandths, precedes his compatriot Alex Marquez (brother of Marc, Repsol Honda MotoGP rider) and the Kalex KTM of the Czech Jakub Kornfeil.

The first bike with a Honda engine is the Suter of Brad Binder, rider of Team Ambrogio Racing, who precedes the Australian Arthur Sissis, (Team Red Bull KTM Ajo), the Spaniard of Mahindra Efren Vazquez, the Frenchman Alexis Masbou and the Portuguese Miguel Oliveira, who closes the Top Ten on the second Mahindra.

First of the Italian riders is Romano Fenati, fourteenth with the FTR Honda of San Carlo Team Italia; the others are Lorenzo Baldassarri sixteenth, Niccolò Antonelli eighteenth (for him a fall without physical consequences), Alessandro Tonucci twenty-fourth, Matteo Ferrari twenty-fifth and Francesco Bagnaia thirty-first.
