We interviewed Matteo Ferrari, rider of the San Carlo Team Italia, who collected the first points of the season at Mugello. The driver, native of Cesena but resident in Rimini, improved his feeling with his Mahindra MGP3O and in the post-race tests of the Italian Grand Prix he obtained good results even with used tyres. Here's what he told us before the Catalunya GP.

Matteo, at Mugello you collected your first world championship points, a nice boost of confidence.

“Yes, the first world championship points have finally arrived. Better late than never, even if we expected them sooner. It's still something positive."

Now comes Barcelona, a track in some ways similar to the Tuscan one, what do you expect?

“We will try to confirm the steps forward we have made, even if it will not be easy to do so, because each track is a story in itself, even if the two tracks are similar. We will certainly do our best to achieve this.”

We can say that Mugello was a starting point, perhaps arriving later than planned, but as you said before, better late than never.

“We can say this, in fact at Mugello we took advantage of evolutionary material, which helped us. The bike no longer had any technical problems and we were able to work on the set-up. From now on we should always do better.”

At Mugello you carried out some tests after the race, what were your findings?

“They were positive tests, we worked on the setting and I had good feedback. We managed to improve the race pace a lot, even with tires that had 20 laps, practically the race distance. I lapped well and this new setting I tried allowed me to push hard when entering corners, what I had been missing since the beginning of the year. I hope this helps me here in Barcelona too.”

This year Honda entered Moto3 in a "bully" manner and KTM confirmed its competitiveness. What is Mahindra missing to get closer?

“As a chassis we are in quite good shape, especially after the tests I spoke about before. What we are missing is a bit of engine, which allows us not to lose too much. KTM and Honda are certainly two very large manufacturers, who have experience and who perhaps if they have problems can solve them quickly. It took us a little longer, but we are working well and we will certainly get there too."

Good luck for this weekend and for the rest of the season

“Crepe the wolf, thanks!”
