Less than a week ago, motorsport lost another young life: Victor Steeman, Supersport 300 driver, who passed away yesterday at the age of 22, following serious injuries sustained in last Sunday's accident during Race 1 of the Portimao Grand Prix.

Following this dramatic event, the Snipers team driver Andrea Migno put down his reflection on paper, shared on his social networks. A harsh outburst towards what is his world but which he has seen change in his 10-year career and unfortunately not for the better. There are many, too many accidents, too much danger in the races in the minor categories and no one is trying to make things change.

The most cynical will say: “Eh, they're looking for it” but no, that's not how you should think. Because it's true, Motorsport is dangerous and unfortunately when a driver falls, there is the risk of being hit but it would be appropriate (and we are referring to those who have power and possibilities) to ensure that accidents of this type can decrease.

After this personal reflection, it is right to give space to the words of Andrea Migno:

“It seems clear to me that there is something wrong, I am referring to the MINOR CATEGORIES, those of YOUNG children, of TEENAGERS. And I underline that I am referring to what could be Moto3, PreMoto3 or a SuperSport300, those categories that have become SICK over the last few years. Now even a dead person is no longer enough to make things change, what should we do? Who should we ask? What needs to happen to make things change?
We've been talking about it for years and realizing it but things aren't changing and they're getting WORSE and WORSE! Extremely wrong, fatal!
The races and the route of the minor categories must change. As soon as possible.
Until a few years ago, when things were better, there were DUELS, the last laps to fight for position between 2-3 neighboring riders, maximum 5-6 when it was 'a group race'.
There was trying to do the best time in qualifying ALONE WITHOUT WAKE, it was normal. To date, a utopia for many, practically for everyone.
All of this happened in the vast majority of GPs on the championship calendar."

“No, today it is no longer like that. The situation has reversed.
Today in the vast majority of GPs in a championship, every weekend a group of 20 or more riders risk their lives (and unfortunately even worse) CONSTANTLY because they find themselves forced to chase and ram each other to get to the final result. “The Moto3 races are the most beautiful to watch, everything happens until the end, the whole race is panic-inducing!”. When I hear this type of phrase, I always feel mostly surprised and shocked, because it's really like this and on TV you can perceive a small part of what really happens on the track. It's an escalation of risks taken by all the drivers at every turn, a war between kids.
Motorsport is dangerous, if you add this extra dose of risk, the episodes can only get worse. I believe that finding THE WHY is not obvious, but I certainly believe that something needs to change.
Probably in addition to the economic issues which we are not here to talk about but which exist, it would be time to give young people the opportunity to MAKE A DIFFERENCE on their bikes, as in the higher categories see Moto2 or MotoGP, SuperSport600 or SuperBike. Where those who manage to go faster and be more effective over 1 or more laps can make the difference on the track! In the minor categories it no longer happens, TOO RARE to see a difference being made on the track although the TALENT and ATTRIBUTES between the riders can be clearly distinguished unlike MOTORCYCLES TECHNICALLY TOO EASY TO TAKE TO THE LIMIT FOR EVERYONE. THE MINOR CATEGORIES MUST BE REFOUNDED!!! This is my thought after another life lost on the track, taken away from this wonderful world of passion and EXTRAORDINARY people.
I hope to be able to witness better MOTORCYCLING, which has not made many steps forward over time and especially in recent years, but which now needs it once again and in a significant way.
YOU CAN'T PRETEND NOTHING NOTHING ONCE AGAIN."
